In India, the curriculum of Agricultural Extension Education has been revisesd recently, after along stagnation. The new courses added are inspired by New Extensionist Learning Kit (NELK) of GFRAS. Yesterday, the Kick off meeting was enlightening though I couldnt work with sticky notes, I put my comments in chats. There was fairly good discussion on Farmer to Farmer extension, mostly in African context. It seems be one good extension approach, but problem is how to select & incentivise the farmers to render extension services- they may sometime demand regular jobs with pay cheques! Informally, its going on in India at the level of farmers,wherein, many progressive/lead farmers are advising other farmers but formalizing the arrangement is a bit tedious.Engaging lead farmers in agricultural extension can reduce the strain on public extension services, while strengthening pluralism in delivery of extension services. Here are my thoughts on this...
