GFRAS announces a strategic partnership with the “Enabling Farmers for Agricultural Transformation (EFAT)” Project

GFRAS is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with the “Enabling Farmers for Agricultural Transformation (EFAT)” Project. EFAT is a five year activity (2022-20227) implemented  by Winrock International and funded globally by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Its goal is to strengthen agricultural extension and advisory services and systems (EAS) as a pathway to boosting agricultural productivity among smallholder farmers and helping them diversify their livelihoods and strengthen their resilience in the face of adverse climate conditions. GFRAS’ regional network in Latin America, RELASER, will also support the implementation of this partnership on behalf of GFRAS.

With EFAT’s goals so closely aligned to GFRAS’ vision and mission, this partnership builds on  networks and institutional synergies to advance agri-food systems that ensure sustainable livelihoods and empower rural actors, while building on the achievements of earlier USAID initiatives that supported extension and advisory services, such as the Developing Local Extension Capacity (DLEC) and Integrating Gender and Nutrition Within Agricultural Extension Services (INGENAES), which also closely collaborated with GFRAS. GFRAS and EFAT are collaborating to revitalize an on-line community forum on EAS, update GFRAS’ knowledge bank to make GFRAS’ website a one-stop shop for EAS resources and materials, freely available for the global community, and develop a module on EAS support for climate change adaptation and mitigation under the New Extensionist Learning Kit (NELK). The two institutions will also co-host learning events.

With a shared commitment to strengthening agricultural extension and advisory services, GFRAS and EFAT’s collaboration promises to uplift smallholder farmers, enhance their resilience in the face of climate challenges, and ultimately contribute to the transformation of agri-food systems, while leaving a resource legacy with a comprehensive and easily accessible resource hub for extension services. The collaboration between GFRAS and EFAT demonstrates the two institutions’ dedication to empowering rural communities and fostering sustainable livelihoods worldwide and exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving positive change in agriculture and rural development.
