The meeting will be a learning event, offering participants many opportunities to share their experience and knowledge. Participants are invited to contribute four different types of inputs:
- Provide a substantive input to one of the three parallel session
- Share an experience, a good practice, a lessons learnt in a blog before the meeting and at a ‘shift and share’ session during the Annual Meeting
- Set up a stand at the market place
- Organise a side event on 22 October
1. Parallel Session
Provide an input to one of the three parallel sessions
Background and context
Parallel sessions will allow for participants to have an in-depth and interactive exchange on the following three topics of the meeting:
- Smart technologies for effective partnerships in RAS
- Innovative financing towards effective partnerships in RAS
- Convergence through collaboration and coordination in RAS
See more details on guiding questions of the parallel session here.
The parallel sessions are designed to be participatory workshops, in which participants are invited to contribute in group work, discussions, and other forms of exchange. Several presenters will provide short inputs which are intended to provide food for thought for the discussions.
What we are looking for
For each of the three parallel sessions, we are looking for 2-4 inputs that give insights into concepts, evidence, case studies and practical experiences related to the topic of the parallel session. Presentations in the parallel sessions will provide inputs for discussions that go beyond the examples or cases presented, and should last no longer than 12 minutes (not more than 10 slides).
How to proceed
Proposals should be submitted to the GFRAS Secretariat using this online form. Proposals to provide inputs will be reviewed and selected by the Organising Committee according to their relevance for the parallel session and the quality and innovative nature of the content (see the template attached). Other aspects, such as gender, sector, age and regional balance among presenters will also be taken into account. If accepted, the Organising Committee and moderators will provide suggestions to consider in preparing the final presentation. Based on quality and relevance, inputs might also be suggested for another session or a short presentation.

2. Blog and Shift & Share
Share your experience or story about RAS and youth in a blog and in the ‘shift and share’ session during the meeting
Background and context
Going with the tradition of the GFRAS Annual Meetings, participants this year will again have the opportunity to share their wide range of experiences, stories, lessons and challenges related to the meeting topic.
During the Shift and Share, presenters will be allocated to different areas or ‘stations’, where they will share in seven minutes the essence of their experiences, stories, evidence, projects, cases or innovations that are of relevance to the topic of the Annual Meeting and may be of value to others.Presenters will repeat their presentation four times in a row, to four different groups of people, who will move in small groups from one station to another. Participants will learn from each presenter and have an opportunity for a brief exchange. This provides a unique opportunity for presenters for creative mix of ideas and brainstorming on their inputs.
These short presentations will be supported by blog entries on the GFRAS Annual Meeting website.
What we are looking for
We are looking for intriguing, innovative or creative stories, experiences, ideas or lessons learned in relation to effective partnerships, which can be shared in a short blog entry and presented in no more than seven minutes. These can be about a project, new research findings on the topic, a policy, a practical experience, a creative idea, an innovation or anything similar. Presenters will be required to give their inputs without technical devices, using flipcharts and pin boards only.
How to proceed
Short presentations will be held in the Shift and Share Session.Participants are welcome to submit their proposals in the form of a blog to the GFRAS Secretariat using this online form. The GFRAS Secretariat will copy-edit them where needed and update them on the website.
If blog entries exceed the number of places available for short presentations at the Annual Meeting, the Organising Committee will decide which presentations will be given a slot during the Annual Meeting. Timeslots will be allocated to the presenters and the Organising Committee might provide guidance on the content of the input.

3. Market Place
Have a stand at the market place
Background and context
The market place (also called share fair) has become a tradition at GFRAS Annual Meetings. Participants can use this occasion to share information on their latest programmes or projects, distribute important publications or present new ideas. The market place this year will run throughout the meeting, with specific slots reserved for participants to visit it during the meeting.
What we are looking for
The market place is open to anyone to share any materials related to RAS. While standard booths and stands usually display brochures, posters, publications, videos etc., proposals to use other types of creative media that can be shown or presented in a limited space are welcome, including exhibitions, poems, musical pieces etc.
How to proceed
Participants who are interested in having a stand at the share fair are invited to send their proposal to the GFRAS Secretariat using this online form.
The Organising Committee will try to accept as many stands as logistically possible and announce the stands with the information provided in the proposal on the GFRAS website.

4. Side Event
Hold a side event
Background and context
GFRAS members and affiliates are welcome to hold a side event on 22 October 2018, prior to the Annual Meeting. Organisers can decide to take advantage of participation of RAS actors from all over the world to prepare joint positions for the 9thGFRAS Annual Meeting, initiate partnerships or debate any other RAS-related issues. Organisers of side events will be responsible for developing their own materials, bringing and setting up their own equipment and cover all costs related to their side event. Side event organisers will of course benefit from various synergies with the 9thGFRAS Annual Meeting. The GFRAS Secretariat has pre-booked rooms and conference packages, which the organisers will pay to the GFRAS Secretariat. Side events will be announced in the GFRAS programme.
