2nd GFRAS Annual Meeting 2011 in Nairobi
The minutes, presentations, and other material from the 2nd GFRAS Annual Meeting 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya are now online. Included is a video feature about the key elements of networking.
3rd GFRAS Annual Meeting 2012 in the Philippines
The 3rd GFRAS Annual Meeting will take place 26-28 September 2012 in the Philippines, co-hosted by the Asia-Pacific Islands Rural Advisory Services Network APIRAS. Information will be made available here. Registration and call for inputs will open on 18 May and close on 10 June for participants applying for sponsorship, and on 22 July for self-sponsored participants. The call for inputs will also close 22 July.
GFRAS Working Groups
Working groups are a good way to get involved in GFRAS. A new section of the GFRAS website explains what a working group is, how it functions, and what groups are already established.
African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (AFAAS)
News from the Malawi Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (MAFAAS)
The Malawi Department of Agricultural Extension Services mobilised stakeholders to develop strategies for coordination and quality service delivery enhancement. One of the suggested strategies is the strengthening of the National Stakeholder Panel (NSP)/Malawi Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (MAFAAS). A workshop was conducted at Malawi Institute of Management on 7 March 2012. The General Assembly of the Malawi Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (MAFAAS) is scheduled for 5 April 2012 in Lilongwe.

Asia-Pacific Islands Rural Advisory Services Network (APIRAS)
Latin American Network for Rural Extension Services (RELASER)
- The RELASER steering committee met in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 6-7 March. The committee elected Julio Catullo from INTA Argentina as president and Hur Ben Correa da Silva from MDA Brazil as vice-president.
- The 3rd Latin-American meeting will take place in Bolivia 10-12 October 2012. Participation in GCARD 2012, Uruguay RELASER and GFRAS plan to participate at the Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD) 2012 in Uruguay.

Arid Lands Information Network wins UNESCO prize
One of the field trip site organisers from the Nairobi International Conference on Extension and Advisory Services has won a UNESCO prize! The Arid Lands Information Network and the Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists are the co-winners of the 2012 edition of the UNESCO-IPDC Prize for Rural Communication. ALIN is an NGO with a mission to improve the livelihoods of arid lands communities in East Africa by facilitating access to information and knowledge exchange between communities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. World Farmers’ Organisation WFO
WFO wants to bring together national agricultural producer organisations and agricultural producer cooperative organisations to create policies and advocate on world farmers’ behalf, in order to improve the economic situation and livelihood of producers, their families, and rural communities. It was founded in 2011 and is based in Rome, Italy.
Access Agriculture

Access Agriculture has obtained a grant from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to further develop its website that aims at the sharing, promotion and use of agricultural training videos by extension service providers in developing countries. On April 16, Access Agriculture meets in London to brainstorm on the website’s future look and functions. Through this message we invite you to share your ideas as to what you think the Access Agriculture website should include to enhance interaction with the community of practitioners and users.
